You might have seen the name Ghislaine Maxwell pop up a lot on the news or social media recently, and could be wondering why other than that it sounds like the most Bond-villain-y name imaginable. You might have seen her for example, in this poorly cropped photo by Fox News that did a pretty shit job trying to hide her association with Donald Trump, yet still left Melania in the photo:
But there's a reason Fox News cropped Trump out of that photo, and it's not because some intern accidentally hit the new Photoshop tool labeled "conceal damaging political connections." It has to do with Fox News doing their best to distance Trump from the man standing next to Maxwell. That man, of course, is famed piece-of-shit and sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking of minors on July 6, 2019, and (allegedly) killed himself on August 10, 2019. It was kind of a major news story considering his ties to so many powerful people from the Trumps to the Clintons. Still, someone who largely escaped public scrutiny and justice was Maxwell, which was strange because she's Epstein's right-hand woman. (Think Drakken/Shego except with way more abuses against young women.)
Maxwell finally was arrested on Thursday morning, but it's bizarre how it's taken this long to bring charges against her considering how central she was to Epstein's operation. According to the indictment against her:
"From at least in or about 1994, up to and including at least in or about 1997, Maxwell assisted, facilitated, and contributed to Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of minor girls by, among other things, helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse victims known to Maxwell and Epstein to be under the age of 18."
Maxwell would build a rapport with these girls by taking them shopping and discussing their lives and then would work to normalize sexual abuse by "undressing in front of the victims" and "being present for sex acts involving the minor and Epstein."
Maxwell was like the Igor to Jeffrey Epstein's Dr. Frankenstein, but only on the inside was she a decrepit hunchback stooge. On the outside, she was a British socialite who came from money -- the daughter of publisher Robert Maxwell -- and her presence is, in part, what gave Epstein so much credibility and enabled him to commit the acts that he did. In short, yeah, it's a photo Donald Trump would prefer to be cropped out of. Fortunately, (and I mean fortunately in only the loosest of ways) Ghislaine Maxwell is still alive, meaning we might be able to see what other instances Donald Trump and others have cropped themselves out of.
