It's the goal of many writers to influence human society, and science fiction frequently does just that. Sci-fi inspires technology, sci-fi (unfortunately) inspires cops, and sci-fi helps us process the history of our own planet. And sure, it's a genre that's ripe for cliche and overused tropes, but sometimes we love a tired trope. Speaking of tired tropes, did you know the “dark and stormy night” guy wrote sci-fi?
