As a US ex-pat living in Canada, I can confirm a few things:
1) No, Canada is not some liberal utopia / commie hellhole.
2) Yes, Canadians are really friendly.
3) They do occasionally say "aboot" and they get really sensitive when you point it out.
4) Not having to worry about health care is every bit as fucking awesome as you might think it is.
