Although the majority of human history is unrecorded, we've managed to do some pretty horrible stuff in the years since we started writing everything down. 

 

From world wars to human rights violations to standard medieval practices, there are plenty of disturbing facts about the past. But as they say, those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, so it's your job to learn these uncomfortable truths and safeguard the future against them, or something like that. At the very least you can satisfy your morbid curiosity. 

 

Here are some uncomfortable facts from our troubled history.

Cigarettes
