Turn back the clock to 2006 and try to imagine how many people would be cheering for Britney Spears over Joss Whedon. The world may be bleak now, but Britney finally getting proper appreciation in the 2020s is definitely a societal improvement. Britney Spears is a generational genius when it comes to concert production, stage performance, and breaking music theory in interesting ways…and yet we as a society treated her like such garbage that courts decided Britney's idiot dad could control her for 13 years. Thankfully, the #FreeBritney movement led to a documentary which led to actual progress, both in the legal system and public opinion. Hopefully, one of the best SNL musician-hosts has many more fulfilling years ahead of her.
