‘Rick and Morty’ Showrunner Says He’s ‘Always Keeping An Eye Out’ for Guest Roles for Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Rob Mac
The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Gang is pretty good at infiltrating Rick and Morty’s galactic multiverse.
During a recent AMA on the show’s subreddit, showrunner Scott Marder teased a sunny forecast for upcoming Rick and Morty episodes, hinting that Danny DeVito and Charlie Day’s guest appearances could be the first of many collaborations between Always Sunny and the Adult Swim staple.
“I’m always keeping an eye out for the perfect roles for Rob (Mac), Glenn (Howerton) and Kaitlin (Olson),” Marder replied to a fan when asked about the possibility of more cameos from the Paddy’s Pub crew.
Don't Miss
Marder, who also serves as an executive producer on Always Sunny, became especially enthused about bringing Paddy’s Pub to Universe C-137 after his “really awesome” experience catching up with DeVito while working on the Rick and Morty’s most recent season.
“He’s the best. It’s a lot of the same fun,” Marder said of reuniting with DeVito, who played Dr. Dogballs on “The CuRicksous Case of Bethjamin Button.”
“Always Sunny and Rick and Morty are always willing to go for it, insanity-wise, so that’s right up my alley,” he continued, adding that the “creative freedom” is even more pronounced on Rick and Morty.
“That’s saying a lot cause Sunny always felt super freeing,” Marder explained while breaking down the differences between his two comedies. “Some seasons of that show were so outlandish that we’d need to be reminded after we wrote all the episodes that we somehow weren’t in the bar at all, and we’d have to rewrite to put stuff back in Paddy’s.”
We definitely know a whole lot of Ricks who would appreciate a multi-dimensional Paddy’s Pub franchise.
