Paddy’s Pub Is Somehow Way More of A Sh*thole Than We Thought
Paddy’s Pub is famously disgusting. Its carbon-monoxide problem, rat population and occasional instances of an underwear-clad Frank Reynolds slithering about mean the bar is known just as much for its sticky, smelly aura as it is for being the birthplace of The Gang’s various schemes. But as fans recently discovered, the reality of Paddy’s is somehow even grosser than previously imagined.
FX celebrated It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s 20th anniversary on Monday with a fully immersive glimpse into Paddy’s Pub, offering those with a VR headset or a big laptop screen and vivid imagination a chance to explore the not-so-hallowed halls of an establishment dubbed “The Worst Bar in Philadelphia.” The network touted the YouTube video as an opportunity to celebrate Paddy’s “finery,” but anyone with eyes could look past the Pub’s “colorful streaming banners” and “chaotic back rooms” and see that it’s a complete dump.
Shoe-trapping stickiness lines the visibly filthy floors, and the gashed, duct-taped bar seats sink at even a passing glance, hinting that you’ll leave Paddy’s with both a hangover and a backache. Dirty ashtrays peppered across the tables prove that Paddy’s either smells like a 2000s bowling alley or hasn’t been properly cleaned since Philadelphia passed the Clean Indoor Air Act Guidance back in 2008.
Don't Miss
Given all of the above, fans ran to social media to report just how much worse Paddy’s distinct disgustingness looks in a 360-degree view. “This is truly the VR experience of all time,” commented one viewer on YouTube, while several others cracked jokes about the set’s light-rigged, torn-up ceiling.
“20 years and Charlie still hasn’t fixed the ceiling, he’s just been fucking around in there,” added a Twitter user. Another insisted on formally placing the task on Charlie’s docket. “Add ‘fix the ceiling’ to the list of Charlie Work,” they joked.
In fact, if anything, that’s the silver lining here: Paddy’s resident Rat King won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
