Former Trump Aide Launches New Free Speech Social Media Platform

By:

On today's installment of right-wing politicians continuing the fight against non-existent oppression from the social media overlords, Jason Miller, an advisor for former President Trump has taken it upon himself to create a new social media offering, quietly launching his new platform, GETTR on Thursday. Aside from sounding like the catchphrase for a supervillain played Reese Witherspoon, the site is presented as a(n even more) conservative-friendly alternative to big tech, centered around freedom of speech – because we all know, filling largely unmoderated message boards with hate speech and bogus conspiracies to spread unchecked in the name of the First Amendment has never, ever ended poorly!

Described as a "Twitter clone filtered through Parler," per Gizmodo, the new site has already reiterated its dedication to “fighting cancel culture, promoting common sense, defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas," the app is currently in its beta form, with a full roll-out planned for Sunday, July 4. Because nothing says patriotism like creating a platform that will likely be used by alleged insurrectionists!

Now, I know what you may be wondering  – “Will we see a return of former President Donald Trump's deranged 3 a.m. posts?” Well, folks, it seems the answer is a solid “maybe," due to conflicting evidence on the matter. Although a notably unverified account with the username @realDonaldTrump has already appeared on the site, sharing a message stating “my new Social Media Platform,” Bloomberg's Senior White House Correspondent, Jennifer Jacobs says 45 will likely be staying off the app, as he allegedly “still has plans for a separate platform.”

Ugh.
