David Letterman Was ‘Thrilled’ to Be Attacked by President Trump

‘LOSER’ Letterman finally responds to the president’s social media tantrum

President Trump clearly won’t back down from his brave fight against the anti-American scourge that is late-night talk show hosts.

After threatening Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, earlier this month, Trump fired off an attack on a comedian who hasn’t hosted a network TV show in over a decade: David Letterman.

“Whatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose ratings were never very good,” Trump questioned in a September 19th Truth Social post. The sitting president also claimed that Letterman “looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit. LOSER!!!”

At least the Commander-in-Chief refrained from taking pot-shots at Letterman’s performance in Cabin Boy.

Well, there was seemingly no bigger fan of this infantile post than Letterman himself.

In a recent YouTube video, the former Late Show host praised Jimmy Kimmel’s return to TV, calling his first show back “priceless and perfect and moving” as well as “funny and powerful, and just word perfect.” Letterman argued that “in a pretty bleak landscape, (Kimmel’s) presentation offered a bit of hope.”

“People seem to be stunned when things like this happen,” Letterman said of the Trump administration’s threats against Kimmel and ABC. “And I am so tired of people being stunned by things like this, because we have a pretty good history of people being stunned by this guy — and the reason he continues to behave this way (is) not because he wants to stun us, but because he’s a dictator. And dictators do things like this. I think the question we need to ask ourselves now is, ‘What exactly are we going to do about this?’”

As for the Truth Social insult, Letterman called it “delightful,” noting that he was “thrilled” to hear about the post, which “was like Santa had knocked on my door and asked if he could come in and unload his big bag of gifts.”

“Yes, all of those points are true,” Letterman said of Trump’s list of slights. “Still, to get it from the president was a pure moment of delight.” Letterman also pointed out that his show’s “ratings weren’t always lousy” before playing an archival clip of The Late Show in which the future president went out of his way to praise Dave’s ratings.

As for the comment about his looks, Letterman wasn’t about to take that specific diss from Trump. “Isn’t that a little like the kettle calling the pot black?” Letterman asked. “I mean, have you seen this big tubby goofball?”

“Honest to crap, let’s try to stop being surprised by this lunatic behavior, he’s a dictator,” the comedian concluded. “This is what dictators do. The real question is, what should we do? We would rather not have a dictator.”
