We're not going to disagree, but we'll add that we think ‘scandal sells’ just as well. Think about it: whenever there's a scandal, you're bound to hear about it. Yep, we love to see famous people or politicians taken down a peg, especially if they're obnoxious or self-righteous.

Yes, it’s just more grist for the mill, and the mill just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There’s more ways than ever to learn who’s blown it big-time or can’t put the shovel down. And there are about a billion outlets waiting to pounce when it happens.

So to be clear: it's not that we view famous people through rose-tinted glasses. Quite the opposite, in fact. It's just that we expect them to do terrible stuff, so then we just kind of forget about it. It's only when we look back that we're amazed we ever stopped thinking about these scandals.
