Hank Hill Says This Would Have Been His Career If He Weren’t a Propane Salesman
Hank Hill wasn’t always destined to sell propane and propane accessories.
On Thursday, the famous Arlenite headed to King of the Hill’s subreddit to host his first AMA. After explaining why a “good power drill” is his favorite tool and sharing that he still finds the time to “noodle” on his guitar, Hank also revealed that had he not gone pro in propane, he probably would have pursued a career in selling good ol’ American denim.
“I got my start selling jeans,” he recalled of dividing his teenage years between football practice and his part-time job at Arlen’s Jeans West. Hank quit his after-school gig to work for Buck Strickland at Strickland Propane, and not a moment too soon.
Don't Miss
“It seems (jeans) have become too political, like so many other things these days,” Hank concluded, hinting that he, too, doesn’t wanna hear about any more gottdang “good jeans.”
This wasn’t the only time Hank referenced his love for “sweet lady propane” during the AMA either. He fielded several questions about his favorite clean-burning fuel, claiming that President Ronald Reagan had the chops to work at Strickland and even offering one fan, who had recently purchased a propane grill, some tips for tasting the meat and not the heat.
“Congratulations on taking up grilling, and congratulations on choosing the correct grill,” he explained. “With a propane grill, you really can’t go wrong.”
Even with the proper tools, keeping a clean surface, he said, is the key to cooking success. “One thing that really bothers me is when I see a grill that isn’t properly cleaned,” Hank added. “Some people believe that by not cleaning their grill, it enhances the flavor of the meat. I will not be eating at their houses.”
Considering his newfound appreciation for charcoal-grilled fare, we’ll just have to wait and see how long Hank’s new dinner-party rule lasts.
