‘Simpsons’ jokes that hit harder once your hair starts to turn gray
‘Simpsons’ Quotes That Only Make Sense After You’ve Grown Up

In the entire canon of Western storytelling, there has never been uttered another line as ominous as when Abraham Simpson warned his son, “It’ll happen to you.”

In two months, The Simpsons will turn 34 years old, which is roughly the canonical age Homer Simpson was when the show first premiered in 1989. Any 34-year-old Simpsons fan who grew up alongside the show will likely agree that there are certain lines, gags and grim utterances from the adults of Springfield that will fly right over the heads of an underaged viewer and straight through the heart of an adult audience member. Much like black coffee, fine wine and an early Saturday morning trip to the farmers’ market, some Simpsons jokes don’t hit quite as hard until you have a few decades of life experience behind you.

Over in the Simpsons subreddit, fans recently discussed which Simpsons lines can only be fully appreciated by adult audiences — and we’re not talking about the chorus lines down at the burlesque house. Here are the fans’ favorite Simpsons jokes that are 18+ in the not-as-fun way…

“Give me a white wine spritzer!”

“To alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems”

“Do you kids want to be like the real U.N., or do you just want to squabble and waste time?”

“What’s the point of going out? We’re just going to end up back here anyways”

“I’m a white male aged 18-49, everyone listens to me no matter how dumb my suggestions are!”

“Don't worry, boy. When you get a job like me, you’ll miss every summer!”

“If you don’t like your job, you don’t strike, you just go in every day and do it really half-assed!”

“Mr. Simpson, this government computer can process over nine tax returns per day. Did you really think you could fool it?”

“She’s faking it”

“I used to be with ‘it,’ but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you!”
