You can chop and remix literally any English phrase into a Dutch one by adding a few extra vowels and throaty sounds — the Dutch language has everything from letters that feel forbidden when arranged next to each other, to words that sound like a baby learning English for the first time. For a few years now, Twitter users have been hip to this fact, regularly putting phrases through Google’s English-to-Dutch translation engine, screenshotting the result and captioning it with “Dutch is not a real language.”
