Chanel West Coast Leaves ‘Ridiculousness’ After 30 Seasons. Also, ‘Ridiculousness’ Has 30 Seasons?

What’s another 10 or 20 seasons when you’re the only thing MTV has got?
Chanel West Coast Leaves ‘Ridiculousness’ After 30 Seasons. Also, ‘Ridiculousness’ Has 30 Seasons?

Chanel West Coast, age 34, is leaving MTV’s ubiquitous Ridiculousness after 30 seasons, an amazing run that suggests she’s been co-hosting the weirdo clip show since she was… four? Wait, she’s only been on the show since 2011, meaning Ridiculousness produces, like, three “seasons” a year. Huh. Basic cable math is weird.

For MTV’s sake, it’s a good thing that the host’s resignation won’t mean the end of Ridiculousness. I mean, what would this afternoon look like on MTV without it? With a schedule like this, the show has probably aired more than programs that lasted an actual 30 years.

At 6 p.m., stay turned for more hilarity with Ridiculousness!

Chanel West Coast, whose parents gave her the decidedly un-MTV name of Chelsea Dudley, worked her way up from staff receptionist on Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factor (nice work if you can get it) to an acting cast member on MTV’s The Hard Times of RJ Berger before becoming Steelo and Dyrdek’s guffawing cohost on Ridiculousness. A show that features funny online videos needs someone to laugh at them, and nobody did it better than West Coast. “It’s like pure joy, I guess,” she describes her trademark chortle before breaking into uncontrollable hysterics.

But all good things must come to end, even if it takes 30 seasons to get there. “After years of being a part of the Ridiculousness family, I’m sad to say goodbye to the show but very excited to announce my next big venture,” someone wrote on her behalf in a statement to Variety. “I’m also very excited for the world to see me beyond ‘the laugh’ and for once, see the real me.”

What’s that next big venture? MTV and Paramount have signed the TV personality to “executive produce, create and star in her own unscripted series,” which will presumably focus on her passions — clothing, music and giggling like a mad person. Congrats, West Coast — we look forward to 30 or 40 amazing seasons over the next couple of years.
