Baby Groot 'Drops Constant F-Bombs,' Guardians of the Galaxy Director Says

Move over R-Rated Mrs. Doubtfire, it turns out that yet another wholesome cinema icon has a canonically-confirmed penchant for secretly using very blue language – none other than everyone's favorite extraterrestrial tree monster, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Earlier this week, a video decoding several of the contextual meanings behind the character's iconic (and only) catchphrase, “I am Groot,” went viral on TikTok, featuring the sentient tree-like creature telling a fellow Guardian to “Shut up, Bitch,” asking for help from an oblivious Captain America, tossing his pee out into the depths of space, and of course, uttering his previously confirmed final line in Avengers: Infinity War, calling Rocket “dad."

Garnering more than one million likes in less than two days, the video quickly found its way into the hands of Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn, who shared the clip on Twitter. In his post, the director applauded TikToker @nerd.star for their accuracy in guessing the actual meaning behind the character's lines, which are translated from Groot to English in a script exclusively reserved for Gunn and voice actor Vin Diesel, a tidbit that the director shared several years ago. Although he once again confirmed that Groot's final Infinity War line, the other clips weren't entirely accurate. “The others are close, good guesses, but not exact. Still good work!” the Marvel icon wrote.

Yet as the reposted video gained popularity on Gunn's Twitter page, one fan asked the question we'd all been wondering – if Groot isn't saying the b-word, what is he saying? Although the director says he doesn't remember the exact line, the answer is what may be Groot's favorite word -- f***. “Baby/kid Groot drops constant F-bombs,” Gunn elaborated on his page, before describing, in detail, just how much the character enjoys using the four-letter word.

I guess that's one way to spew the f-word and slip by with a PG-13 rating. So folks, in light of Groot's apparent penchant for the swearing, remember – I am Groot, I am Groot. I am Groot, I am Groot? I am Groot.
