‘Kill Tony’ Star William Montgomery Bombs, Screams At Audience In Viral Meltdown
A star of Tony Hinchcliffe’s Austin comedy scene just got booed offstage in a public meltdown worse than the one Hinchcliffe suffered at Madison Square Garden last October.
On Saturday, Montgomery, who, according to Hinchcliffe, holds the record for most one-minute performances on the popular stand-up showcase Kill Tony, played a nightmarish set in the Still Standing Comedy Festival at Austin’s Far Out Lounge. While Montgomery’s high-volume and occasionally, intentionally offensive act is a hit among the Texas capital’s many comedy-loving drywall-punchers, in a lineup that featured musical comedian Morgan Jay and sardonic Brooklyn darling Robby Hoffman, Montgomery’s 12-years-late punchlines about Paul Walker were less amusing to the crowd at the Far Out Lounge than they are to his usual demographic.

During the disastrous set, which many festival attendees captured on video and posted on social media for posterity, Montgomery erupted into a rage when the audience didn't laugh at one of his jokes, screaming obscenities at the crowd that was astoundingly unreceptive to such comedy gold as, “Paul Walker? More like Paul Crasher!”
According to audience members at the Still Standing Comedy Festival, Montgomery finally walked offstage 15 minutes into what was supposed to be a half-hour set, earning his only round of applause that night as he slinked away into the wings. None of the videos of the embarrassing bomb that have come out so far show the beginning of the meltdown, but whatever motivated Montgomery to scream slurs at one woman in attendance while calling for her public execution must have been much worse than Hinchcliffe's usual post-set roasting.
Even the kind of Austin comedy fans who have given Montgomery his career were cringing at his meltdown, as the Kill Tony subreddit piled onto Montgomery in the hours following the festival bomb. “I was there. It was way worse than it seemed in this video,” one Kill Tony fan wrote, “Everyone in the crowd was making remarks about how he just needed to get off the stage. The craziest part was an audience member was able to walk on stage, and called his performance garbage.”
“What a shit joke, weed viagra? What the fuck are we talking about bruh,” another user asked.
One more fan added of Montgomery, “I never found him to be funny. Idk what Tony sees in him.”
However, many fans defended Montgomery and argued that, even among the top comedians in the country, bombing is simply a part of the business. Other Kill Tony followers opined that the issue wasn't Montgomery's material, or his delivery, or even his decision to start hurling obscenities at random women in the audience while calling for their death – no, it was the crowd's fault, as they were only there to see tame, palatable acts like Jay, meaning that they were too fragile for Montgomery's edgier material.
Wrote one Kill Tony follower in another thread, “The real dumbass was whoever watched 30 seconds of a Morgan jay clip and said you know who would pair with this like a fine wine? The fucking memphis strangler.”
