Ellen DeGeneres Sued for Negligence Over Alleged T-Boning Incident in 2023

A Santa Barbara Tesla-driver is taking DeGeneres to court seeking compensatory damages

A Santa Barbara woman is taking Ellen DeGeneres to court, claiming that the controversial TV host and comedian caused a disastrous and painful car crash. Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone else who also watched Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, an unnamed plaintiff is “suing DeGeneres for general negligence and an undisclosed amount of compensatory damages” following an alleged car accident in Santa Barbara County back in October 2023. In the complaint, the plaintiff claims that DeGeneres ran through a stop sign and T-boned her Tesla, which caused the plaintiff “multiple serious personal injuries and damages” for which she now seeks compensatory damages. DeGeneres, who has since moved her family to the United Kingdom, has yet to publicly comment on the accusations made against her.

In addition to the physical injuries and ensuing medical expenses that the plaintiff claims she suffered as a result of DeGeneres’ poor driving, the suit also seeks compensation for the plaintiff’s “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and anxiety” due to the incident. As such, if the suit succeeds, it may just serve as a precedent for making a millionaire out of every The Ellen DeGeneres Show production assistant.

The suit alleges that the incident in question occurred at an intersection with four-way stop signs, and the plaintiff came to the legally required complete stop and “made sure there were no other vehicles” in the intersection before driving again. Then, “suddenly and without any warning,” DeGeneres blew through the stop sign and “T-boned” the plaintiffs Tesla, causing serious injury to the allegedly aggrieved party.

“Ellen DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign,” the lawsuit says, further accusing the former daytime television queen of “negligent conduct (that) fell below the standard of care of a reasonable person.” The suit claims that DeGeneres “negligently caused, or contributed to causing plaintiffs vehicle to be collided with by the defendants vehicle,” resulting in “multiple serious personal injuries and damages” to the plaintiff.

The compensatory damages sought by the suit are meant to cover, among other costs, the plaintiffs wage loss following the incident and her hospital bills and continued medical treatment. But, if history is going to be any teacher, the plaintiff may very well need the full might of the United States legal system if shes going to force DeGeneres to pay her a fair wage and provide for her healthcare.
