Frankie Muniz Says Fans Will Be ‘Surprised’ With Where the ‘Malcom in the Middle’ Revival Picks Up
It’s safe to say that Malcom in the Middle’s revival will prove that life is still unfair, but Frankie Muniz recently teased that some major twists are in store for the Wilkerson family, speculating that fans will be surprised by where everybody is nearly two decades after the series’ 2006 finale.
“It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right?” Muniz told YouTuber Joe Vulpis during an appearance on his Lightweights podcast. “I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with.”
Despite discussing a possible revival with his on-screen father, Bryan Cranston, for more than a decade before the show’s return was officially greenlit, Muniz said that he “didn’t have any idea” of what creator Linwood M. Boomer had in mind for his character until he actually read the revival’s scripts.

“It was a really almost surreal experience reading (them),” he recalled.
Beyond his character’s arc, Muniz was also pleasantly surprised by how naturally he fell back into playing Malcolm, dubbing his time on set as “one of the most rewarding experiences of (his) life.”
“It just felt (like) home,” the actor continued, noting that this comfort allowed him to improvise and to “try things” he’d have otherwise shied away from. This led to what Muniz says are “some of the funniest moments of the show,” and exemplified why the star so greatly enjoyed heading back to the small screen.
“I loved it so much, way more than I ever thought I could have,” he said.
And hey, even if the show is a flop, we can always pull a Hal and say the reboot was all just a dream.
