Frank’s New Love on ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ May Be the Real Deal, Charlie Day Says

Is Paddy’s Trash Man settling down?

After almost two decades of “bangin’ hoors,” Frank Reynolds has finally found love.

In what could be the most dramatic moment in Golden Bachelor history, Frank rounded out It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s 17th season with a new love interest, handing his final rose to Sam, a chicken heiress played by Taxi alum Carol Kane.

“I am way down with that,” Danny DeVito told The Hollywood Reporter of Frank’s decision to ditch his womanizing ways. “I mean, you get up there in age, it’s nice to have a steady girlfriend.”

Frank and Sam’s TV romance doesn’t appear to be a one-time fling either. DeVito’s co-star, Charlie Day said he’s confident that Kane’s character will return for some upcoming episodes of Always Sunny. “I am sure we will write (Kane) into next season as well,” Day explained. “She seemed to have a lot of fun, so I would assume she would come back and do it, which would be great.”

Day’s assumption isn’t unfounded. When asked about her character’s potential return to Paddy’s Pub, Kane literally crossed her fingers that she’d appear in the show’s 18th season. “This is all I have to say,” Kane said during an interview with TV Guide, gesturing to her hand. “I hope, I hope.”

Though Kane clearly jived with the Always Sunny cast, Sam wasn’t always a shoo-in to win Frank’s heart. The show’s writers experimented with a few different endings for the finale, including ones that would’ve condemned Sam and her main competitor, the Hailey Welch-inspired “Cock Chewa,” to single-episode characters. Kane’s acting chops and chemistry with DeVito ultimately came out on top, pushing the team to air the pair’s climactic kiss at the end of the episode.

“The writers understood that Carol knocked it out of the park,” DeVito told Variety, noting that he, too, has his “fingers crossed” for Kane’s return. “I’m looking forward to doing another show with her.”

And if it doesn’t work out, at least Frank will always have his magnum condoms and wad of hundreds.
