Fans Are Calling the Finale of ‘And Just Like That…’ the Worst Episode of Television Ever

The abrupt end was filled with literal shit

I live in a beautiful alternate realm where the entire Sex and the City Universe ended after the original 94 episode run between 1998 and 2004. Everything that exists after that, therefore, is not real and cannot hurt me. Samantha is still around. Big is probably dead, but I don’t know how and it’s none of my business. Charlotte is happy. Miranda is out of the closet. Carrie never found happiness. But beyond these more oblique outlines of their lives, the details are unknown to me.

For that, I am grateful. Because in the real world, the one where And Just Like That… ended just like that, people seem to be miserable. Cracked’s Tara Ariano wrote in her review of the final episode that much of the third season and certainly the ending were “unsatisfying,” leaving viewers to wonder, “why anyone bothered to bring them back to us at all.”

On the internet, people expressed their displeasure far more dramatically. It didn’t help, of course, that the final episode, “Party of One,” included a scene that featured actual shit clogging a toilet. Messy, anticlimatic, totally disjointed — critics have used all of these words to describe the show. The fans were a bit less forgiving with their feedback.

A few examples:

One woman went so far as to write on X: “Everyone involved in the series finale of #AJLT should be executed,” adding, “I’ve never seen anything so patently horrible. A complete and literal shit show.”

Others didn’t have death threats but did have a similar level of vitriol for the ending of the show. Here’s a taste of some of their assessments:

  • “Goodbye AJLT… thank you for ruining MY LIFE.”
  • “Rest in Peace, And Just Like That. You no longer have to suffer. We no longer have to suffer.”
  • “Apologies in advance for my ‘basic comment’ however this episode was so disgusting and stupid. I did hate watch and now regret the hours I will not get back from my life.  The producers literally sh*t on the fans.”
  • “AJLT has some of the most INSANE storytelling I’ve ever seen & I watched Glee.”
  • “This was the most horrific series finale episode I’ve ever seen. They all should be ashamed of themselves.”
  • “The finale is proof the show was abruptly cancelled. Did our hate watching cause this?”
  • “Makes Game of Thrones look like Shakespeare.”

Yeesh, even including the call for mass execution, saying that AJLT is worse than Game of Thrones is harsh. That series finale was really, really bad. But to be mentioned in the same category as GOT gives us an idea of where AJLT fans are at — will this show suffer a similar fate of now being completely un-rewatchable, too?
