4 Surprising Heel Turns By ‘SNL’ Stars Who Aren’t Named Rob Schneider
Rob Schneider has had a weird post-Saturday Night Live career, starring in sorta popular but critically reviled movies like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (“Lazy and crude”) and The Hot Chick (“Offensive, vile, and, even worse, not funny”) before settling into a life of Adam Sandler cameos and Fox Nation guest spots.
Schneider’s right-wing trolling on social media isn’t for everybody, but his politics don’t make him a full-blown villain. These four Saturday Night Live alums have committed even worse crimes against comedy and humanity.
Chevy Chase
Chase wasn’t always a complete jerk. As the original Saturday Night took off, he was more or less one of the gang until the press started singling him out as the show’s breakout star. The attention quickly went to his head. He began turning in scripts that simply read, “Me being funny.” He insulted Johnny Carson. He did prodigious amounts of coke and negotiated his way out of the show.

Thus began decades of Chase acting like a world-class A-hole, boxing Bill Murray during a live show, asking female SNL writers for hand jobs, being dubbed “worst SNL host ever” by Will Ferrell, tossing the N-word around the set of Community, fighting Joel McHale and making the world’s most ridiculous Instagram Reels.
In 2018, he told The Washington Post he couldn’t understand why no one wanted to make Chevy Chase movies anymore. Hmm, wonder why.
Randy Quaid
SNL Season 11 cast member Quaid insists he’s not the heel — it’s the members of an evil Hollywood sect he calls the Star Whackers who are trying to kill him and his wife. The National Lampoon’s Vacation star and his wife Evi also believed the cast of a failed Broadway show was out to murder them.
I won’t joke about any mental illness that may be at play here. Still, Quaid and his wife Evi have a disturbing rap sheet, including arrests for defrauding an innkeeper, burglary, failing to check in as a non-resident in Canada and neglecting to show for court appearances. Quaid has been quieter in recent years, but I wouldn’t mess with him or his dogs.
Bill Murray
Murray may be the most beloved former SNL star on this list, but not everyone thinks he’s a great dude. Sure, he might delight with a surprise pop-in at a frat party. But there’s also that allegation of “inappropriate behavior” on the set of Being Mortal that cost Murray $100,000 to settle.
Not getting along with Chase is one thing, but a number of Murray’s co-stars report that he’s a serious pain in the ass to work with, including Schneider, Sean Young, Nick Nolte, Seth Green, Geena Davis, Lucy Liu, Anjelica Huston and Richard Dreyfuss. He reportedly was miserable on the sets of his biggest movies, including Lost in Translation, Scrooged and Groundhog Day. Look through all the smoke and see that Murray has been setting fires all along.
Mike Myers
Maybe Myers is a nice guy at home, but he’s a dick on movie sets.
Cat in the Hat costar Amy Hill says working with Myers was a “horrible, nightmarish experience.” His bodyguard on The Love Guru was allegedly fired for accidentally making eye contact with the star. Wayne’s World director Penelope Spheeris says working with Myers was “like walking on eggshells.” (He blocked her from directing the sequel.) And Myers ripped off his Dr. Evil character from Wayne’s World co-star Dana Carvey. “I honestly root against him,” one studio executive told Entertainment Weekly.
Sounds like working with Myers was totally excellent — not.
