22 TV Shows Without a Single Likable Character

Even if it’s only to sit in the background maintaining the charade that the protagonist’s hamster hair salon has customers, every character on a TV show fills a role. The heroes, of course, are our primary interest, but they need villains, otherwise you’ll get mad at them for having a perfect life despite such a stupid job as “hamster hairstylist.” They need friends, family, lovers, bagel guys. And those characters may or may not be likable, depending on the needs of the narrative and how good the bagels are.

Some TV shows, however, are devoid of anything resembling a non-hateable human being. Sometimes that’s intentional — after all, the follies of man are our greatest source of comedy. (Translation: Terrible people are funny.) Sometimes, it is super not, and the screenwriters simply have no idea how much they suck, too.
