Humans are creative creatures. Sometimes that creativity is used for good, but sometimes it's used to come up with really hellish ways to inflict violence and torture onto each other. Until we dream up a new world without capital punishment, the death penalty is still a very dark reality. It's certainly nothing new, and our current heinous ways almost look innocent compared to these nightmare-inducing historic methods of execution.
