Have you played ‘Royal Kingdom’?
Jimmy Fallon Is Getting Roasted for Maybe His Worst Side Hustle Yet

Jimmy Fallon is nursing the wound of having the least compelling 11:30 p.m. late-night show by keeping many other streams of income flowing. There’s that show that’s just a series of insufferable commercials, On Brand with Jimmy Fallon, his appearance in the game show Password and his role in an actual State Farm commercial. But perhaps the worst of his many other jobs is one that’s befallen other famous people: becoming a famous face for the app game Royal Kingdom.

It’s earned Fallon more ire than his middling late-night and game-show hosting abilities combined. “As if Fallon couldn’t hit a new low here he is in literal crappy mobile game YouTube ads,” a Redditor shared in the r/LateNightShows subreddit.

For those unfamiliar, Royal Kingdom is a game for when you’re dealing with unaddressed depression or some other form of debilitating mental illness. I would know, as back in 2023, I gave this game $15 over the course of three months. It’s a color-matching game with the kind of bright, dopamine-inducing app that can easily eat an hour of your evening when your body feels like it’s being crushed under the weight of your own ineptitude. It’s like Candy Crush in that way.

Fallon’s agreement to be a spox for the game is rightfully confusing. People on the Reddit thread threw around words like “greedy” and “pathetic” when discussing Fallon’s decision to star in the ad. But this recent round of Reddit roasting isn’t the first time Fallon’s been dogged for hawking Royal Kingdom. A year ago, someone wrote about the ad: “I rarely have immediate hate for a commercial (it usually takes a few repetitions), but it only took one airing on this one. I wasn’t able to go back to sleep afterwards & it aired again a half hour later,” one person wrote in the r/CommercialsIHate subreddit. Someone else added, “Anything with Jimmy Fallon is guaranteed to be cringe and annoying. His show is literally this.”

Still, even amidst all the hate for his taking Royal Kingdom ad money, some people are coming to Fallon’s defense. “He’s not my favorite, but people got to make money. At least he didn’t do a monologue in Saudi,” a third Redditor argued.

Hey, fair enough!
