Jon Stewart Roasts Ted Cruz for His Horrific ‘Simpsons’ Impressions

There’s certainly no shortage of reasons to dislike Ted Cruz, from his garbage policies, to his spineless MAGA sycophancy to the time that he bolted for Cancun in the middle of a major Texas emergency and then blamed his daughters for the scandalous vacation.

But one of the worst things about Cruz just might be his tone-deaf Simpsons fandom.

As we’ve mentioned before, Cruz loves The Simpsons, and often references the show, possibly in a sweaty attempt to prove that he’s a likable human being who understands the concept of jokes.

Of course, Cruz has an almost impressive ability to not understand the show he claims to watch, once proudly proclaiming that his party would have the support of Homer, Marge and Maggie Simpson (but not Lisa). This prompted producer and writer Al Jean to rebut the statement, and suggest that Trump-era Republicans are so terrible that “even Mr. Burns is thinking of becoming a Democrat.”

But Cruz isn’t just a bad fan, he’s also a bad impressionist. During Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, part-time host Jon Stewart played a recent clip of Cruz’s podcast, in which he tried and failed to do a Goodfellas-esque mob accent. “Is there anything in pop culture that I love that you can’t ruin?” Stewart asked before playing a clip reel of Cruz performing the cringiest impressions you’ll ever see of Lisa, Homer and Mr. Burns.

The full video, which is still available on YouTube, was produced by BuzzFeed back in 2015 for some unfathomable reason. Thankfully, Stewart’s team omitted Cruz’s particularly awful Kang impression from their piece.

The Daily Show audience immediately began booing the clip as soon as it finished. “They’re not saying ‘boo,’ they’re saying, ‘Boo-urns,’” Stewart joked, in reference to Hans Moleman’s line from “A Star Is Burns.”

“Imagine having to endure a Texas power outage with this guy,” Stewart added. “‘Who wants to hear my Apu? Anyone?’” The comedian also highlighted Cruz’s Darth Vader impression, which is arguably the worst thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise since Chewbacca’s creepy family celebrated Life Day.

Come to think of it, the only solid Simpsons impression that Cruz ever managed to pull off was of Mayor Quimby, but just from that one episode where he abandoned Springfieldians for a Caribbean vacation in the middle of a crisis.
