Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna Becomes Latest Republican to Awkwardly Embrace Their ‘South Park’ Parody
South Park has spent the vast majority of its 27th season roasting the U.S. president and his gang of puppy-murdering sycophants — much to the annoyance of Trump loyalists and Kyle Broflovski fans.
As we’ve mentioned before, several of the show’s right-wing satirical targets have attempted to reframe their South Park parodies as some kind of rarified honor. Like how JD Vance joked that he “finally made it” after the show depicted him as a toddler-sized sidekick tasked with carrying Trump’s baby oil.
Don't Miss
Charlie Kirk embraced the episode in which Cartman patterns himself after the far-right internet personality, changing his social media profile picture to Cartman and praising the show’s portrayal of his debates with college students — although he conveniently edited out the part where Cartman admits he edits out all the students “actually argue back well.” And also the part where Cartman debates people over Zoom while taking a shit.
Now, as pointed out by South Park fans on Reddit, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida has changed her profile picture to that of her cut-out animation doppelganger from the most recent episode, “Sickofancy.”
The episode finds a Florida politician, who just like Luna, shows up at the White House wearing a blue dress. The cartoon Floridian then presents the president with a phallic “silver-plated space shuttle” statuette before praising his leadership and assuring him that he definitely doesn’t “have a small penis.”
Unlike some of the other political figures who have been roasted in recent episodes, Luna wasn’t actually mentioned by name, although the South Park wiki does cite her as the character’s inspiration. So she now seems to be actively promoting the fact that she was on the show in a bid for attention, rather than trying to own a joke that was obviously made at her expense specifically.
Come to think of it, the real-life politician is actually far more absurd than the animated character we briefly saw in the episode. Luna once introduced legislation to carve Trump’s likeness into Mount Rushmore, and claimed to have been "raised as a Messianic Jew" even though her relatives said “she was Catholic” and “her grandfather fought for the Nazis.” Luna also stated that she has proof that “interdimensional beings” exist during an interview with Joe Rogan.
It feels like she’s awkwardly trying to get in on the trend of MAGA fixtures awkwardly trying to get in on South Park’s joke — even though the “joke” is unequivocally predicated on the fact that they’re giant pieces of shit that everyone involved with South Park actively detests.
