England Declares That Liam Gallagher Is Funnier Than Most Stand-Ups
Oasis front man Liam Gallagher might just be a better comedian than the U.K.’s top stand-ups, which is an admittedly low bar to clear when his competition is Jimmy “Holocaust Knock-Knock Jokes” Carr and Ricky “Atheist Jesus” Gervais.
Right now, Britain’s biggest band of the 1990s is on their Oasis Live ‘25 Tour, playing the biggest stadiums on the island and making international headlines on a near-nightly basis. But while nostalgia rock continues to prove itself as a consistent cash cow in the U.K., the country’s comedy industry is in the midst of a tumultuous in-between phase, similarly to its counterpart in the American scene, and no new comedian or comedy group has yet cemented themselves as the Beatles-but-worse of contemporary British humor.
Don't Miss
However, as U.K. comedian and musician Marc Burrows recently told The Guardian in the publication’s comparison of comedy and rock ‘n’ roll in terms of both cultural impact and commercial performance, comedians might not even bother to compete with the biggest act in Great Britain, because “Liam Gallagher is funnier than almost any comic,” a point that’s long been abundantly clear to anyone following both Gallagher and Gervais on Twitter:
Although Gallagher’s official music performances have been infrequent since Oasis split up in 2009, Gallagher’s interactions — or, I guess, crowd work — with his online followers have stayed consistent since the rock star first joined Twitter in February of that same year. Despite being one of the most rich and famous entertainers on the planet, Gallagher has seemingly always had time to get into a spat with a stranger in his replies, or to spit some non sequitur that instantly goes down as an all-time hilarious post.
Gallagher has gone through several purges of his classic tweets, undoubtedly at the urging of his publicist, and many of his all-time funniest posts have become lost media. However, there are still some Gallagher bangers left in the screenshot folders of his fans — such as when he chimed in during his brother and frequent feud partner Noel’s Twitter Q&A to ask the lead guitarist and primary songwriter of Oasis, “Why you such a massive c---.”
Or there’s the time Gallagher thought he had a COVID emergency, telling his fans, “It’s very confusing scary though I feel like I’ve had it 7 times last few days then realised the house is just hot.”
Then, there’s Gallagher’s answer when asked to name his favorite superhero, as he wrote back, “Sponge bob square pants he’s the boy.”
And who could forget the time that one Oasis fan asked Gallagher if horror films scare him, only for him to respond, “Not as much as I scare them.”
Put simply, Gallagher is the greatest shitposter in the U.K., and at a time when the country’s biggest comedians are coming to grips with the fact that being a punch-down provocateur simply isn't special or controversial anymore, he might be the only consistently hilarious A-lister left in the kingdom.
