20 Characters Who Really Grew on People
Hey, not every character in a movie or on TV has to be likable. Maybe they’re a villain, and their entire purpose is to have a questionable moral compass. Maybe they’re a foil to the protagonist, and their bad breath/annoying laugh/smug superiority drives the conflict. Maybe they’re on The Big Bang Theory. There’s a number of reasons to write an annoying character.
Sometimes, though, a character that started out as an irritating bag of fingernails on a chalkboard turns out to be a viewer favorite. The arc of history is long and bends towards fondness, so even the jackest of asses can grow on an audience. That’s why user Lystaireen asked r/AskReddit, “What characters did you find intolerable at first, only to love them when they grew in their story?”
