Look, not every character in a movie or TV show has to be likable. Sometimes, it’s the unlikable ones that have the most to teach us, because they represent what we don’t like about ourselves. Sometimes, it’s just fun to watch some asshole ruin everyone’s good time. Not every audience member is likable, either.
But some characters are the pretend-human equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard. They’re so perfectly hateable that you’d think they must have been masterfully crafted to be, except they’re the main character, or at least so significant that you get too annoyed to continue (or hating them is the only reason you do).
