Trey Parker Offered This Blunt Response to Those Offended by ‘South Park’s Premiere
In the 24 hours since South Park’s Trump-eviscerating season premiere aired, much of social media has been clogged with both praise and complaints from angry right-wingers. Meanwhile, the White House made an official statement criticizing the no longer “relevant” show… that somehow still warranted a comment from the White House?
Oh, and Pod Save America released an episode all about the cartoon that seems to be doing a far better job of saving America than their pod.
And while we typically don’t hear much from Trey Parker and Matt Stone so soon after an episode drops, it just so happened that the duo were scheduled to appear at San Diego Comic-Con tonight for an adult animation-themed panel that also included Mike Judge and Digman!’s Andy Samberg.
Don't Miss
Naturally, moderator Josh Horowitz took the opportunity to probe Parker and Stone about last night’s button-pushing episode. “Did you anticipate the reaction today? Have you been following it?” Horowitz asked.
“We’re terribly sorry,” Parker deadpanned in a video shared by Deadline. He then lowered the microphone and nodded, indicating that his response had come to an end.
The pair did get into a little more detail about the episode as the panel progressed, including the revelation that there was a prolonged behind-the-scenes debate about whether or not to blur Trump’s micro-penis in the deepfake PSA that aired at the end of the episode. “I’m like we’re not going to blur the penis,” Parker explained.
“If we put (googly) eyes on the penis, we won’t blur it. That was a whole conversation with grown-up people for four fucking days!” Stone added.
When Horowitz joked that Parker and Stone may be getting a subpoena from the president any time, they didn’t seem fazed at all. “It’s fine man — I’m ready,” Parker proclaimed.
And clearly they’re not too worried about any potential litigation, because the credits for the season premiere weren’t full of John and Jane Smiths, like some other South Park episodes.
