A New Rumor Claims That Brad Pitt Will Star in An Episode of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

A rumor that a certain A-lister will appear on a new episode It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is starting to pick up steam on social media. Are we really ready for Hollywood Mac?
For a sitcom that has seen repeated snubbing from the snooty critical community and awards organizations of show business, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a preposterously impressive list of celebrity guest actors who have gleefully debased themselves for an episode or two over the last 20 years. Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro played the deranged McPoyle patriarch Pappy McPoyle in a couple of episodes. Sinbad and Rob Thomas once tag-teamed Dennis’ brain injury-induced hallucination. Multi-platinum singer Josh Groban appeared as himself in Dee’s crisis daydream, just for her to divorce him to get with Brad Pitt, who, speaking of which, may be next in line for the hilarious humiliation ritual that is an Always Sunny celebrity cameo, if we’re to believe our Facebook newsfeed.
Don't Miss
According to a popular It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan page called “Always Sunny Daily,” “sources” have said that the two-time Academy Award-winning actor and prolific film producer Pitt “has shown his interest in the show and is considering a part in the next season.” Considering filming for Season 17 wrapped this past December, Benjamin Button will be a decrepit child by the time he finally makes his Always Sunny debut in Season 18.
After the above rumor graphic went viral on Facebook, Always Sunny fans in the show’s subreddit picked up the supposed story in a thread that quickly reached the front page wherein they formed a consensus about Pitt’s purported casting. “Make him a McPoyle,” reads the most popular comment by a wide margin.
However, other fans doubted this mysterious “source” whom Always Sunny Daily cited in the viral graphic, and for good reason. While the Facebook page boasts nearly 70,000 followers and a shockingly lucrative yet probably unlicensed Etsy shop for Always Sunny merch, no other Always Sunny “news” source has reported on this rumor. And, as we already discussed, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 wrapped filming at the end of last year ahead of its June premiere, so it would be a little late in the game for Pitt to be mulling over a possible appearance, unless he's willing to wait two years for production to start on next season.
On top of that, Pitt and McElhenney have already (sort of) worked together, and McElhenney still considers his first time acting alongside the A-lister to be “the most humiliating experience” of his entire life. Back when McElhenney was 19, he booked his first movie role in the 1997 action-thriller The Devil's Own, starring Pitt, Harrison Ford and a handful of other household names at the time, and, as every teenager who thinks they hit the big time tends to do, McElhenney invited everyone from his friends and family to see the movie on opening night. Only when his entire community was in the theater did McElhenney discover that the film's editor left every single one of his scenes on the cutting room floor.
While McElhenney may not be one to hold a grudge, it certainly does feel like “The Gang Meets Brad Pitt” is even more of a pipe dream than McElhenney making his big-screen debut alongside the superstar. Personally, I’ll be more willing to believe that Always Sunny Daily has an inside source at FX once they prove that they have permission to sell branded “The Nightman Cometh” jigsaw puzzles.
