21 of the Most Depressing Comedies

‘Stranger Than Fiction’ was a major bummer
21 of the Most Depressing Comedies

You’d think the people who market movies would want to, you know, target people who might like the movie in question, but advertising can be deceiving. You can’t even trust a trailer to tell if a movie is a musical anymore. And forget about categories on streaming sites — you look at the Netflix comedies recently? Oooh, Silver Linings PlaybookHilarious.

Redditor JaneErrrr knows the feeling. “I just watched Marriage, Italian Style with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni,” they recently told r/Movies. “It almost appears to have been billed as a fun, sex farce but was just incredibly sad. Loren is an illiterate prostitute who’s manipulated and abused by Mastroianni for 20 years before faking (her) death and finally entrapping him. A few funny moments but generally sad.”

They then asked, “What is the most depressing movie you’ve seen that was billed as a comedy?” and Reddit revealed that they’ve seen some shit.
