I never thought that a U.S. congressman could headline at the Hollywood Improv. Actually, I never thought that a U.S. congressman should headline the Hollywood Improv — and that includes Adam Schiff.

The representative from California’s 30th district and candidate to succeed Dianne Feinstein in the Senate has a yearly tradition wherein he takes over a prestigious L.A. comedy club for one night to stretch his stand-up legs alongside a slate of Schiff-friendly professional comics. This year, with a Senate race on the horizon, Schiff has expanded Schiffapalooza, with a show at the California Democratic Convention this past Friday and another next month in a TBD comedy club whose open micers will soon start ideating their political careers.

Speaking to TMZ yesterday, Schiff said that he performs his now semi-annual stand-up set so that he can hear a crowd beg him not to quit his day job — no Republicans will be in attendance.
