Ben Stiller’s ‘Encino Man’ Screen Test Is Exactly As Silly As It Sounds

In another universe, Ben Stiller just won an Oscar for The Whale.

The much-maligned and ever-gracious Encino Man star Pauly Shore recently posted a never-before-seen screentest of an alternate casting for the three leads in the high school caveman comedy. In the audition clip, the Tropic Thunder director and star played Brendan Fraser’s frozen caveman character Link, while Adventures in Babysitting star Keith Coogan and Jeff Maynard of the short-lived Ferris Bueller TV show tried out for Sean Astin and Shore’s parts respectively.

Stiller’s early comedy work contained some remarkably silly performances, but there’s something especially tickling about watching him jump around on a bed in a teenager’s bedroom adorned with his sloppy cave paintings. Think the computer scene from Zoolander but longer.

At this point, does Stiller even want Shore to look and see if he has an audition reel for Son in Law?
