Pete Davidson Has Found His New Significant Other — Optimus Prime

It’s not exactly breaking news that Pete Davidson is everywhere – from Taco Bell ad campaigns, to cringey Call of Duty trailers, to the bedroom of any woman in showbusiness, there aren’t many places where you can’t catch a glimpse of Staten Island’s human cigarette heartthrob. Now the recent SNL departure has officially entered the Michael Bay extended universe as he joins the cast of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set to premier in 2023.

The self-proclaimed and self-deprecating “King of Staten Island” is accompanied by prolific action star and recent lead of Everything Everywhere All at Once Michelle Yeoh as the new additions to the multi-billion dollar series in which Davidson will voice Mirage, an Autobot who turns into a silver-blue Porsche 964. It turns out what Pete was looking for all along in a significant other is something that transforms into a Freightliner FL86 cab over semi truck.

Pete is coming off of a series of starring roles in films such as A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, a black comedy slasher film about drugged out zoomers, and Peacock’s Meet Cute, a time-travel rom-com co-starring Big Bang Theory lead Kaley Cuoco. Moving into big-budget action movies is the logical step for someone as culturally omnipresent as Pete Davidson – though we wonder if casting Pete in a voice role might take away some of his aesthetic allure. Unless, of course, the Mirage redesign includes a decal of the alien from Mars Attacks! spray painted on the hood.

For a comedian with a dating history that includes the likes of Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, Margaret Qualley, Carly Aquilino, Marilyn Monroe, Cleopatra, and the Jessica Rabbit cartoon from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, it’s surprising that Pete even has time to lend his vocal skills to the series that dared to ask the question “what if a Chevrolet Camaro had feelings?”

We have no doubt that this iteration of the Mirage character will be as wise-cracking and pop-culture-reference-making as one can expect from the monolithic movie series that now enters its seventh installment. According to the Transformers wiki, “Mirage is what humans call ‘old money.’ Before the war, he was a member of affluent Cybertronian society, with his own large estate and high-priced friends. He enjoyed the finer things in life… But when the war started, he was forced to choose sides and found himself banded with a group of commoners he didn't really understand. Mirage demands certain high standards from life and has little time for those who can't ‘rise’ to his class.”

Pete Davidson’s mechanical Princess Diana is set to make his Transformers debut in June, 2023.
