6 Awful Things Fans Forgot Celebs Did

It’s easy to put a lot of these people on a pedestal if you choose to ignore the waving red flags.
6 Awful Things Fans Forgot Celebs Did

Everyone loves celebrities, or at least regular normal people do. After all, who doesn't get a little starstruck seeing the star of their favorite movie or join in the collective groin kicking of insert celeb punching bag de jour here's entire existence. It's easy to put a lot of these people on a pedestal, romanticizing them into some flawless, perfectly sculpted demigods and not the flawed humans they actually are.

So when some of them turn out to actually be gigantic assholes, it can come as a bit of a shock to the uninitiated, like when ...

Kevin Costner Had A Casino On Stolen Native Land

Kevin Costner has basically been in everything, from The Bodyguard to Waterworld to Field of Dreams and more. He was kind of like Hollywood's Swiss army knife in the '80s and '90s, which was steadied by Costner's dad-vibes of good moral fiber. Turns out that Costner might not be such a good guy after all, as he opened a casino on land that had been taken from Native Americans without their permission.

To understand how this all came to be, first, we have to talk a bit about America's favorite pastime: screwing Native Americans over. It all started over the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868, an attempt by the US Government to settle disputes between Natives and white people over land, which gave the Sioux people all the land between the Missouri River and Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains in exchange for basically almost all of the Great Plains. If you're familiar with the history of "Whitey Backstabbing Native Part 600," then you'll know how much of a raw deal this was and would continue to be.

Eventually, the US government went "screw you, your land is ours now" after white settlers realized that the Black Hills had an assload of gold to be conveniently and quietly parted with back in the 1870s. So congress decided that shiny expensive things were worth more than Native Americans and their culture and promptly took it all back in 1877 with the "screw you, got mine" law

"Hey, Lakota, no one can really ‘own’ land, right? So, hand it over to us."

It wouldn't be until the 1980s when the Supreme Court decided to try and compensate the tribes for the lost land, but they reasonably rejected it, instead asking for the stolen land back -- which never happened. This brings us squarely back to Kevin Costner, who bought a building in a town there and converted it to a casino. Then he tried to buy additional land nearby, much to the protest of said Sioux people that got screwed over. Costner, having been seen as sympathetic to Native struggles before, turned into a villain of the eyes of the same natives who had at some point admired him and even honored him with a ceremony and sacred garments and feathers.

If there's any silver lining to this story, it's that Costner's casino did temporarily close in 2017 after a 26-year run due to reasons unrelated to Sioux protest--

Well … shit … (New owners.)

A Girlfriend Accused Michael Fassbender Of Abuse

Michael Fassbender's been in just about every role under the sun, from bad comic adaptations like 300 to bad comic adaptations like Dark Phoenix, with a sprinkling of Oscar movies in between. His success has skyrocketed over the years … unhindered by abuse allegations from a decade ago.

So, reconsider dating him, despite his sizable dong.

In the era of #MeToo, it's pretty unsurprising that some of your favorites might just be problematic douchebags, and Fassbender, a while back, came under fire when an ex of his claimed that she was in a very abusive relationship with him. Sunawin "Leasi" Andrews, one of Fassbender's former girlfriends, came out in 2010 against Fassbender, alleging that he had abused her throughout the relationship. Andrews even filed a restraining order against him in court, also asking that it require him to remain away from her two kids as well.

The court paperwork alleged that when they were both having dinner at a restaurant, Andrews' ex-boyfriend said hi to her. She claimed Fassbender screamed at her on the way home, driving so recklessly that she got out of the car and tried to take the car keys out from the driver's side. She said Fassbender drove off, dragging her body across the ground, breaking loads of bones, and leaving her suffering from internal bleeding.

If that isn't gross enough, she also has a story about him wetting the bed.

She also accused him of a separate abuse incident, claiming that he broke her nose. Hollywood being what it is, everyone sort of collectively forgot about this whole thing and went to see Prometheus anyway. Fassbender himself has never commented on the accusations publicly, probably because he's too busy diving into his Scrooge McDuck piles of gold from his Magneto money.

Katy Perry Kissed A Boy On American Idol Without Consent

Katy Perry is one of the most famous musicians/human cartoon characters on the planet.

Outside of recording music and not knowing what feminism is, Perry is a judge on the rejuvenated American Idol, which is where the trouble begins. A 19-year-old cashier singer-songwriter named Benjamin Glaze had auditioned for the show and managed to get selected, where he'd perform a song he wrote called "Stadium." His hope was to get international acclaim and finally have his music career taken off.

This was all dashed, though, when he ended up becoming famous for a different reason. When Benjamin took the stage, he talked a bit about his life and how he had never kissed a woman before. Shocked by this, Katy Perry then beckoned him to come over, and she kissed him right there on the spot

Then all three judges rejected his audition.

The problem with all of this? Benjamin actually didn't want it.

You see, Benjamin comes from a religious family, and he was saving his first kiss for a relationship, which was taken from him by Katy Perry. "I wanted to save it for my first relationship. I wanted it to be special," he said.

After that happened, scores of Twitter users called out the kiss as wrong and asked what would have happened if the genders were reversed, which, yeah, makes sense. Famous celebrity or not, consent matters. And it wasn't the first time allegations were made against her, such as unwanted touching a few years back, which is the type of news that seems to get drowned out by the sound of boob-fired fireworks.

John Mayer's Racist Ramblings

John Mayer is one of those textbook F-boy singer-songwriters that seemingly get produced from a record company's laboratory vat every financial quarter or so. He's made such classic hits like "New Light," with brilliant, secure masculinity lyrics such as "Pushing 40 in the friend zone/ We talk and then you walk away every day/Oh you don't think twice bout me."

Your Body Is A Wonderland

We named "Your Body Is A Wonderland" the song of the decade because it's so awful

It's safe to say that John Mayer isn't the type of dude you'd probably want around your … well, anyone with genitals, but somehow he's managed to endure to this very day. This is surprising considering that he has said some pretty awful, racist shit in the past.

Back in 2010, John Mayer had a pretty revealing interview/Q&A with Playboy magazine, where he talked about various aspects of his soberingly mediocre life, like all of the women he's had sex with. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, John Mayer talked about having a 'hood pass,' which he then likened to a "n****r pass."

"If you didn’t know you, would you think you’re a douche bag?" – actual question from the Playboy interview

We hope we don't have to tell you why this is messed up, but just in case, the racism doesn't stop there. In the same interview, he goes on to explain why he doesn't date Black women, saying, and we quote, that his cock is like "David Duke." Yeah, that David DukeJohn Mayer caught flack for this immediately, which led to him giving the same stock standard apology all white dudes who say the N-word eventually give. You can say sorry as many times as you like, John, but you still have Ku Klux kock

Paul Walker Dated Underaged Girls

Paul Walker was most known for his main role in the Fast and Furious franchise as Brian O'Conner, which garnered him much praise and adoration from fans worldwide. Walker tragically died in 2014 in a high-speed car accident, leaving the entire world to mourn for months.

Even the people in the movie mourn, for a character who's still alive.

It's always difficult to talk about the darker parts of someone's life after they've died, as death is kind of what the kids colloquially call a 'downer,' but it's a necessary part if any of the victims are to find peace. And Paul Walker was, unfortunately, one of those people, as he dated underage girls.

At the risk of being 2 Soon 2 Serious, Walker kind of liked dating teens ... a lot. Walker's girlfriend at the time of his death, Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell, recounted that they both started their relationship when she was just 16 and Walker 33. On top of that, Walker had also been seeing another 16-year-old, Aubrianna Atwell, at that time as well.

Quentin Tarantino Abused Uma Thurman

Director of such classics as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, Tarantino is basically a household name in both artistry and douchebaggery. A man so self-important that he denied his own mother money based on a 40-year grudge.

So, uh, Tarantino mistreated Uma Thurman poorly during the filming of Kill Bill. Uma Thurman alleges that onset that Tarantino purposely created an unsafe environment for her on set to get a more 'authentic' experience out of her. In one situation, he had Thurman do her own stunts and drive a faulty convertible, which ended with her crashing the car and getting permanent damage to her knees and neck. She also talked about how Tarantino personally would do sadistic acts to her during filming, like being the one to choke and spit on her, exploiting the actor-direction relationship in a very creepy way.

"To give the right performance, she had to act opposite someone she truly hated."

Tarantino responded not too long after that by defending most of what he did to her while offering a very lukewarm apology over the whole stunt car crash. We'd imagine that a simple apology does not have the bone and nerve repairing magical powers that Tarantino thinks it has and is basically the same as jackshit. Uma Thurman has since stated that she'd never work with Tarantino again, which might toss a whole wrench in the rumored Kill Bill 3 that might come out.
