David Letterman Calls Trump’s Latest Late Night Threats ‘Delightful’
David Letterman may not have a late night talk show anymore, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not still involved in the current showdown between today’s hosts and the President of the United States – who, judging from his angry social media posts, seems to spend more time in front of the TV than Beavis and Butt-Head.
Back in July, Letterman publicly called out his former network, CBS, for their “gutless” decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, possibly to appease the Trump administration ahead of the Paramount-Skydance merger.
Then, in September, after attacking nearly every late night host on TV, Trump lambasted Letterman on Truth Social, questioning: “Whatever happened to the very highly overrated David Letterman, whose ratings were never very good, either,” and adding, “He looks like hell, but at least he knew when to quit. LOSER!!!”

Unfortunately for Trump, Letterman found the insult to be extremely tickling.
Now, Dave is weighing in on Trump’s calls to fire Late Night host Seth Meyers “IMMEDIATELY,” a threat that FCC chair Brendan Carr soon reposted. And the man who coined “Uma-Oprah” is seemingly still bemused and entertained by the president’s habit of futilely raging at TV personalities he doesn’t care for.
At the beginning of his most recent YouTube video, Letterman made sure to give a “shout-out to our friend Seth Meyers.” He went on to explain that, “The president of the United States now wants to fire Seth Meyers. And I thought, ‘This is just delightful. How do you think that’s gonna go?’”
Letterman seems to be implying that any attempts by Trump and Carr to takedown Meyers will fail and only result in him getting even more attention, which is basically how we saw Jimmy Kimmel’s near-cancelation play out.
“So anyway, I’ve never been more proud of Seth Meyers,” Letterman added. “That’s our old show as a matter of fact,” he said of Late Night. “Yeah, we used to do that show. And he does a magical job.”
Presumably, Letterman wouldn’t have the same level of respect for Meyers, or any late night host, if it turned out that he was secretly texting Trump between episodes.
