Here’s a Look at the New ‘SNL’ Cast at Their First Table Read

Live from New York! It’s five new players

In a little over 24 hours, we will see at least a few of the five new Saturday Night Live cast members take the stage. It’s a pretty big deal for fans, considering the semi-major shakeup between Season 50 and Season 51. With the departure of Emil Wakim, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Heidi Gardner and the voluntary exit of Ego Nwodim, the new cast members are going to be filling some beloved shoes.

With all of the drama surrounding these changes, curiosity is at a fever pitch for devoted views. Will Kam Patterson be as MAGA as his voting record? Can big TikTok followings translate to on-screen chops? Will a cast with nearly double the number of men as women feel weird?

Thanks to the NBC SNL Instagram, we’re getting at least a little bit of a preview of Season 51 before the October 4th premiere. A series of photos posted to the @NBCSNL Insta Story show all five of the incoming cast members at the first table read for the new season.

Most notably, Veronika Slowikowska, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Tommy Brennan were all seen in the photos, with other veteran cast members. Slowikowska was seated next to Bowen Yang, Brennan was seated next to James Austin Johnson and Marshall was getting a hug from Sarah Sherman.

It’s too soon to say if this guarantees that all five will get any real screen time for the season premiere, but their presence does hint at the overall excitement for the show’s return. That excitement can also be found on the r/LiveFromNewYork subreddit. “This is adorable, can’t wait for Saturday,” one person commented. Others are already predicting the futures for the new cast members. “That Jeremy dude will be a future glue guy. He’s one of those who’s built for the show,” another Redditor wrote.

For the real sleuths, you can also see a short snippet of the new cast seated around a table read with Lorne Michaels, Bad Bunny and the rest of the featured players. Here’s hoping this first episode lives up to our collective imagination!
