Meet the Seven New Writers for ‘Saturday Night Live’
When Lorne Michaels promised a “shakeup” at Saturday Night Live this season, he must have been talking about the writers’ room as well as the cast. While five new comedians are replacing five departing SNL vets on-screen, the show is also welcoming seven new writers into the fold.
Here’s what we know about the new joke scribblers…
Jo Sunday
Don't Miss
Stand-up comic Sunday was a finalist to be a cast member this summer, according to Saturday Night Network’s Jon Schneider. The Ghana-born comedian was named a New Face of Comedy at this summer’s Just for Laughs festival.
Maddie Wiener
Another finalist for the show’s cast, stand-up comic Wiener has already performed a killer set on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She’s the co-host of podcasts We’re Having Gay Sex and Phone Is in the Bag.
Rachel Pegram
Actress and comedian Pegram has several writing credits under her belt, including Harley Quinn, Killing It and Blockbuster. She also released a comedy album this year, Silly, Loud, Delightful!
Claire McFadden
SNL dips back into the Second City well to hire mainstage comedian McFadden, who’s also worked as a writer for the delightful Jackbox games. According to her website, she spent some time living on a mountain in Greece.
Jack Bensinger
The comedian collaborates frequently with Sarah Sherman, often serving as her opener when she’s on tour. As an actor, he’s got an interesting IMDb with appearances in Rap World and Bong Zombies.
Maxwell Gay and Tucker Flodman
Here we go again. It’s another writing team from the Harvard Lampoon, although it’s hard to argue with a legacy that includes Colin Jost, Conan O’Brien and Lampoon reject Al Franken.
