Stephen Colbert Doesn’t Hold Back Addressing the Trump Epstein Birthday Book

Those drawings are incriminating

The full details of the horrifying birthday book assembled for Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday have come to light. It seems that everyone who ever befriended the man had jokes and little drawings about how much of a pedophile and sex pest the man was.

In that book, of course, was a birthday poem and drawing crafted by President Donald Trump; we’ve known for months that Trump wrote such a card, but the release of the images of the book served as undeniable proof of its existence. I’m sure somewhere, Andrew Schulz is sitting in a corner somewhere, just feeling super duped by Trump.

But Stephen Colbert, who has frequently been the target of Trump’s ire, didn’t back off of the subject in his Late Show monologue on Tuesday night. “Today, Donald Trump’s horoscope should have warned him he’d have a surprise run-in with a long-lost pervert because the story of his disturbing friendship with Jeffrey Epstein keeps getting more news coverage,” Colbert said. “Trump contributed to a book for Epstein’s 50th birthday, and the letter he wrote was a Picasso of pervitude.”

Given that Colbert and all of the Late Show staffers are already facing cancellation next June, there’s really no need for the host to play it safe with his political commentary. Still, it’s good to see that Colbert isn’t feeling cowed by the nonstop threats and insults from Trump — or his new bosses at CBS. Instead, Colbert is delighting in taking jabs at all of the proof that’s piling up against Trump.

“You know what they say: If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, that duck should not be allowed within 300 yards of a school,” Colbert joked.

“Despite this evidence, despite all this evidence, Trump’s allies are pretending that there’s no evidence,” Colbert continued.

He then dove into the mealy mouthed repudiations from Republicans who claim that the letter has been faked or forged. Both options are entirely ludicrous, as Colbert breaks down just how unlikely those options are with the help of a pretty bad Obama impersonation.

“Trump’s letter wasn’t the only incriminating thing about him in the book,” Colbert explained. “There was also a letter from a longtime Mar-a-Lago member which featured a photo of Epstein holding a novelty check which had been mocked up to appear that it was sent from Trump along with a note claiming that Epstein sold Trump a woman for $22,500.”

After that, he pivoted into the latest horrors from the Supreme Court by concluding his segment about the Epstein book by saying: “Now, Trump’s friends aren’t all dead pedophiles.”

Is it Colbert at his sharpest or funniest? No. But he’s still taking full swings even after he’s been clipped from his perch, which is admirable.
