The ‘King of the Hill’ Revival Confirms Fan Theory That Hank and Peggy Hill Really Do Get It On

It took 14 seasons and a stint abroad, but Hank and Peggy Hill’s marriage — which was famously consummated with a firm handshake — has gotten steamier during their golden years. Scheduling intimacy and reveling in sexually-charged takes on formal greetings are no longer staples of their marriage, and the Hills have learned to let loose with the “throes of activity,” as Hank once called it. As such, the King of the Hill revival offered fans a rare — and possibly TMI — glimpse into Hank and Peggy’s sex life.

The massive 180 was sparked by none other than the retired propane salesman’s one-time least favorite sport: soccer. Shortly after the Hill family’s return to Arlen, Hank found himself grappling with a secret — his time in Saudi Arabia transformed him from a Texan everyman to a Texan everyman with an appreciation for the beautiful game. 

“I love soccer, Peggy,” he confessed to his wife after revealing he’d refereed a youth soccer game during Season 14’s “New Ref in Town.” 

Peggy wasn’t horrified by this revelation about her husband. Instead, she was turned on by her man in uniform. “Why don’t you put on that referee uniform?” Peggy asked upon learning Hank’s secret. “I haven’t seen your calves during the day in a decade.” 

While Hank’s time on the pitch was short-lived, due to his fellow Arlenites turning a high-stakes game into a football/wrestling hybrid, his stint as a soccer official sparked several “Bwah!”-worthy jump cuts to him and Peggy cuddling in apparent post-handshake bliss. 

“You know what does get my motor running?” Peggy asked toward the end of the episode, leaning into her man. “The idea of you being a big, bad foreign spy.” 

The episode came as no surprise to me and other King of the Hill fans who have always believed that despite their formal approach to love and romance, the Hills more than have the capacity to get freaky, gottdangit. 

“Hank is quite reserved and, one might say, repressed. But if there is one thing that being repressed does, it makes your bedroom activities a bit more exciting and possibly adventurous,” one Redditor speculated several months back. “It’s Hank’s little secret who he is behind closed doors.”

“Hank is reserved, but he’s not a never-nude,” another Redditor added of Arlen’s resident “Master of Consent.” “He has no problem giving level, even, fair feedback in a professional way.” 

And as for the missus? “Peggy can also point out shortcomings and flaws while giving you four or five ways to do it better,” they concluded, denouncing the read of the Hills as “nervous, churchy people.”

To me, it’s all pretty clear: Peggy Hill has it going on back there — especially in the bedroom.
