The Good The Bad and the Ugly of Video Games [COMIC]

Check out past updates, in which Winston showed you The Art of Awful Logo Design, The Lifespan of Every TV Show Ever, The Evolution of Fictional Characters by Medium and Words That Need to Be Invented [COMIC].

I don't see what's so awful about Chun-Li's "awful" outfit. It's not particularly exploitative (At least it's not a freaking bikini) and looks comfortable and practical for fighting. It would be cool for a modern-day setting of the game.
ReplyComfortable? have you ever tried wearing a tight top and tights? Not to mention the fact that your opponent would get a great view of your panties every time you did some kicks. Practical and comfertable fighting gear for women is jeans or shorts with a loosely fitted top, not some skintight number that shows off way too much of your figure. Yet, video games arnt made to be practical. so, though your reasoning is lacking. I can agree, showing off Chun Lee's breasts gives the consumers of the game what they want, a chance to fight as or against a beautiful woman.
Is the awful Chun-Li a dig at Alpha? Because that game is awesome in every way.
ReplyI would actually like to play super pirate zombie ninja irony mindfuck
ReplyTo me, half of it read like all of the reasons "Skyward Sword" is a noisome taint stain on a great franchise
Replyi would but zelda modern warfare it looks pretty good
ReplyI don't have enough thumbs down.
The "Multiplayer" and "Games vs. Real Life" ones made me very sad. They made me long for my childhood again.
Replyhow is the gears of war guy an idealized version of self, but not gordon freeman? i love half life 2, but... still.. this comic is retarded.
ReplyHave you looked at Gordan Freeman he looks like a normal guy Gears of War characters are just stupid beefcakes.
Lovely comic!
ReplyThat last panel is gold. I'm still cracking up.
ReplySmile and the whole world smiles with you, display ridiculous amounts of bitterness in comic form and somehow people pay you money to be an ass...
ReplyDisplay ridiculous amounts of bitterness in comment form and somehow you get downvotes.
I'm guessing the Atlas/Frank Fontaine is the corrupt industrialist, and although they set him up as a great antagonist, that final boss fight was just a bunch of BS. The boss fight did not fit into the world of the game at all, I wish they had addressed him differently, at least in bioshock 2 you didn't have to fight a beefed up Sophia Lamb. The only game with a boss fight worse than fontaine was the boss fights of Deus Ex: HR.
ReplyLinear games can be just a good as sand box games. I love Uncharted just as much as I love GTA, they're for different moods.
ReplyAlso, I loved Limbo, y u make fun of it? :(
Zelda in a modern army setting? SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE MY MONIES
ReplyI actually enjoy linear games just as much as open-world games, but games that pretend they're open world but are just linear are awful.
ReplySome linear games are much better. Like No More Heroes.
I agree. One of the really bad ones like that are the Fable games. I still love them, but they have this big world... that you can basically only stay on the path in. And all these side quests... that you can only do at the appropriate time in the main quest.
Oh boy, video-game humour. I expected jokes I've heard half a hundred times. I got it.
ReplyI think Portal proved that the deranged artificial intelligence villain can be amazing when well written.
ReplyI think Skyrim actually has pretty good female anatomy. Sure, even the old ladies have bodies like teenagers, but at least you can't have a tiny little girl body with triple D boobs, and the men's and women's clothes are almost all equally revealing. There are random female town guards and bandits, and while it's not yet perfect it's a step in the right direction.
ReplyWinston is great when he's a deep introspective artist commenting on the human condition in a very entertaining and novel form of comic, not so much when he's a nitpicking whiner like here.
ReplyWell said, after his failure article on superhero reboots I went back through his catalog of articles here and that pretty much sums it up. Good artist, good observations, but one on soapbox or whining forget it the article starts to tank.
How exactly was this nitpicky whining?
Hey, I like God of War and Zelda...
ReplyAaaaaand I'm just reading the title that says "Future".... I feel like a butthole.
Heh-heh...
ReplyThis comic is worth two subtle chuckles.
