Saturday Night Live is one of the most fascinating institutions in comedy. Perpetually under harsh comedic attack with nearly every cast being cast being derided as a decline from the ‘legends’ they replaced, it remains one of the most simultaneously loved and criticized shows ever. Beyond that, it's not only got an incredibly unique format, it has also obviously served as the platform and launch pad for massive comedic talent. In fact, Saturday Night Live has played a pivotal role in the careers of so many talented people, there's plenty of them who get lost in the shuffle.

The fact is, SNL has been running for over 40 years, and they've had a ton of people in the cast in that time ... some of whom went on to become major stars, and their SNL tenure got totally forgotten.

DAMON WAYANS

COMEDY NERD CRACKED.COM DAMON WAYANS WAS ON SNL FROM '85 TO '86, AND IT DID NOT WORK OUT FOR HIM. They had me in scenes where I would just hold a spear. I'm like, 'I'm not doing that. My mother's going to watch this show.' No lines! Just holding the spear in a thong. I'm like, 'I can't do this, he recounted.

ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL

COMEDY NERD CRACKED.COM ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL WAS AN SNL CAST MEMBER IN THE MID-'80S. It didn't really work out for him, and he later said: I think the people that found the most success came from a stand-up background where they had their own material and they had that competitive nature.

JOAN CUSACK

COMEDY NERD CRACKED.COM FROM 1985 TO 1986, JOAN CUSACK WAS A CAST MEMBER ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. She did celeb impressions including Queen Elizabeth, Jane Fonda, and Brooke Shields - but, like most of the castmates she'd worked with, she didn't get asked to come back in 1986.

COMEDY NERD CRACKED.COM BETWEEN 1985 AND 1986, RANDY QUAID WAS A REGULAR ON SNL. Не had two recurring characters - flashy salesman Rudy Randolph Jr. and the Floating Head, which he played in The Limits of The Imagination sketches - plus a bunch of celebrity impersonations.

COMEDY NERD CRACKED.COM BEFORE SHE JOINED THE CAST OF SEINFELD, JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS WAS ON SNL. She was on the show for three seasons in the early '80s, and she described it this way: Everybody was doing a lot of coke and smoking dope. Everybody would stay up late.
