Gerald Ford not only replaced Richard Nixon as Commander-in-Chief after Watergate, but he also stole his spot as Springfield’s newest transplant.
On Tuesday, legendary Simpsons writer Josh Weinstein spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets from Season Seven’s “Two Bad Neighbors,” explaining that Nixon was originally supposed to move to Evergreen Terrace, but “died during the early stages of production,” prompting the The Simpsons team to tap Ford as their alternate. “We realized Gerald Ford was an even better choice ‘cause he kinda looks like Homer and was more Homery in general,” Weinstein explained of the decision. “They’d hit it off!”
Meanwhile, director Jane Schoenbrun is embracing their runner-up status. I Saw the TV Glow came in just behind Jackass Forever on IndieWire’s “100 Best Movies of the 2020s” list, a placement that Schoenbrun considers “a deep honor.”
