26 Scientific Breakthroughs People Want to See Before They Die

Science, at least the responsible kind, can be torturously slow. If you want to pack a tub with magic powder and say that it fights memory loss, you can, but you’re probably not changing anything except some jamoke’s bank account balance. Real scientific advancements, thanks to the eponymous method used to arrive at them, require years or decades of study and testing.

On one hand, nobody wants products rushed to market without due diligence. That’s how we end up with thalidomide giving babies flippers, etc. Still, it can be a bummer to realize that certain achievements are probably coming after you’ve kicked off this mortal coil.

Below, read a list of the scientific discoveries Redditors would most like to witness, even if the timing isn’t looking likely.

beezyshambles . 7y ago Parallel universes, if it is proved to be correct then SHIT WILL HIT THE FAN
LifelsOnTheWire 7y ago Edited 7y ago A space elevator, literally an elevator for getting into space. Its a legitimate thing. Basically you capture a large object like an asteroid and put it in geostationary orbit. Then you tether it to the ground with a really strong cable, and you build an elevator platform that climbs up the cable. The asteroid is now a counterweight. It would take a few days to get into space, but the benefits are enormous. You can get cargo into space for a fraction of the price of a rocket launch (down from $10k-20k per Kg
XavierRenegadeAngel_. 7y ago The biological function that causes us to perceive ourselves as sentient beings, if it's even a biological function and not maybe just the consequence of how connected our brain cells are. That would change a lot for us as a species.
7y ago Obviously transferrence of mind into machine. I'll take an invincible robot body with missile launchers over this sack of bones any day.
Bz3rk . 7y ago I really want to see humans land on Mars.

oDDmON . 7y ago Viable nuclear fusion. We could have a shit ton of other stuff, if we could work out a self sustaining energy source with no waste products to speak of.
