News broke this week that Robert De Niro is set to reprise his role as Travis Bickle, the hysterical cabbie at the center of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. There’s no sequel in the works though. Instead, the actor will be spouting Bickle’s iconic lines for an upcoming Uber ad campaign. With the wave of nostalgia hitting our screens recently, it’s unfortunately become routine to see an Oscar winner sell out for a quick cash grab. In De Niro’s case, the Twitter timeline was quick to mock him for why it figured he’s taking any job available to him — namely, after welcoming his seventh child at 79 with girlfriend Tiffany Chen and having to pay ex-wife Grace Hightower a million dollars a year as part of their divorce settlement, De Niro isn’t exactly in any position to turn down a check.
Luckily for De Niro, he found himself in good company getting roasted this week. Other victims included an actor with a Razzie-worthy paparazzi shot, a country that should stay in the closet and a creepy, crawly right-wing blogger.
