Will Kimmel’s 2D cartoon doppelganger return to the show?
This Is the Last Time Jimmy Kimmel Appeared on ‘South Park’

Barring another surprise delay, we should be getting a brand new episode of South Park this week. And while no details have been released so far, some folks have speculated that the season’s fifth episode will comment on the recent suspension — and prompt un-suspension — of Jimmy Kimmel.

South Park obviously doesn’t touch on every single news story, but the suggestion that Kimmel might pop up on the long-running animated series isn’t all that crazy considering that the ex-Comedy Central employee already exists within the world of the show.

As you may recall, back in Season 13’s Kanye West-skewering “Fishsticks,” Jimmy comes up with a “gay fish” joke that’s quickly hailed as the “funniest joke ever conceived” — and immediately stolen by multiple late-night comedians, including David Letterman, Jay Leno and Kimmel. Although only Leno is able to make audience members laugh to the point of getting on all fours and projectile vomiting.

Kimmel is hardly the focal point of the episode, and is only on screen for a matter of seconds. But what makes the host’s South Park debut most interesting is the actor who voiced him. According to IMDb, the role of Jimmy Kimmel was played by Francis Los Feliz, whose only credit is that one episode of South Park.

That’s because “Francis Los Feliz” was really Jonathan Kimmel, Jimmy Kimmel’s little brother. Jonathan Kimmel worked as a “consultant” on many episodes of the show, and voiced multiple characters. In addition to his brother, Jonathan Kimmel also voiced Gandalf the Grey and Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, in an episode that is famously no longer available.

While the “Jimmy Kimmel” character only appeared in that one episode, Trey Parker and Matt Stone did seem to be friendly with the host, revealing that they hooked him up with Book of Mormon tickets during a 2012 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Incidentally, during the same show, the duo also discussed their “last-second” approach to South Park, with Parker admitting that every time they try to write an episode way in advance “it sucks. So we just gave up.”

“I think it’s inspiring for all those kids who don’t do their homework until midnight the night before,” Kimmel joked.

We’ll have to wait and see if Kimmel makes an appearance on South Park that doesn’t involve ripping off a fourth grader’s joke.
