Bill Clinton Tried to Steal Charlie Sheen’s Girlfriend
When Bill Clinton was the man in charge of the state of Arkansas, most people called him Governor. But to Charlie Sheen, the man was Mr. Steal Your Girl.
Sheen was on location in Clinton’s state in 1987, filming the forgotten comedy Three for the Road with Kerri Green and Alan Ruck. Sheen played a young political aide working with his buddy (Ruck) to deliver a senator's wild teenage daughter (Green) to an institution for girls. Fun!
Sheen, Ruck and Green got an invite to the governor's mansion for a photo-op, and the three readily accepted, according to Sheen’s new memoir, The Book of Sheen, per Entertainment Weekly. The actor brought along his girlfriend, Dolly Fox, which was probably a mistake. The governor of Arkansas had a thing for brunettes, after all. Also blondes. And redheads.
Don't Miss
Ruck later whispered to Sheen that Clinton was giving Fox the eye.
“It was pretty surreal as Governor Clinton gave me a pair of red-and-white Razorback shoes, intentionally tacky and modeled after the mascot of Arkansas’ sports teams,” Sheen wrote. “I was answering a reporter’s question when Ruck overheard Clinton whisper to one of his aides, ‘Find out what you can about the brunette.’”
Ruck swore to Sheen that “Find out what you can about the brunette” was a direct quote, straight from the governor’s mouth. “Clearly, the behavior that transformed an intern a few years later into a household name had been in play long before her blue dress became famous. It was quite the moment in time to be ringside for that slice of creepy history,” Sheen said, referencing Clinton’s later affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Sheen, who has been accused of sexual abuse on the set of Lucas and spent hundreds of thousands a year on sex workers, knows a little something about creepy history.
And here’s some more creepy: While Sheen “felt bad” that his girlfriend was objectified, he “still had to take some pride in ‘Bubba’ fancying my gal.”
At least according to Sheen, Fox took some pride as well when Ruck told her the story in a bar later that night. “To her credit, she laughed and was actually flattered."
A decade later, the actor was in rehab when the Lewinsky scandal broke. He told others in the clinic about how Clinton had tried to hit on his girlfriend back in the day, but none of the other recovering addicts bought it.
“I was still pretty faded on detox meds, and no one believed me,” Sheen remembered. “I literally said out loud to the group huddled around the TV, ‘It’s kool, I’ll put it in a book one day and you can all go fuck yourselves.’ (And here we are).”
