20 Awesome Characters Who Were Ruined By Their Actors
A great actor can do a lot with a poorly-written character. Generations of Snape-defenders only exist because Alan Rickman ruled, and the teenage girls of the aughts would probably not find the somehow elderly and immature Edward Cullen so dreamy if he weren’t played by Robert Pattinson. Okay, a great actor can mostly do a lot with huge creeps.
But a terrible actor can also absolutely destroy a great character. Think about some of the best characters to grace the screen: Sherlock Holmes. James Bond. Batman. Now imagine they’re all being played by Steven Seagal. There might very well be rioting in the streets.
That didn't happen, but it probably should have, to the people brought up by Redditors after user Moakmeister asked r/AskReddit, “What is an amazingly written character that was ruined by their actor being terrible?”
