21 Movies People Had No Idea Would Be So Sad

Generally speaking, we like to walk into a movie theater knowing what to expect. Of course, everybody likes a good plot twist, and you might even avoid reading or hearing too much about a movie in an effort to purify your experience, but you probably have a pretty good idea if, say, someone’s head is going to get blown off. Slapstick horror comedy? Seems likely. Lighthearted romance? Hopefully not.

That’s why it’s rude as hell for a film to switch genres on you, and that goes double if it does so in a way that messes with you emotionally. You’re sipping your 64-ounce soda, enjoying your farcical little romp, and out of nowhere, it punches you right in the feelings.

It’s just not cool, man. We all know the feeling, so user LimbicTorro asked r/AskReddit, “What is the most unexpectedly sad movie?”
